Their role is to <strong>maximize the light transmittance<\/strong> (Ultraviolet, Infrared or visible light) while resisting to high temperatures and pressures. Those pieces are made of alpha alumina like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/serie\/cr\/\">CR<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/serie\/tcp\/\">TCP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"large\">HID Lamps (High Intensity Discharge lamps)<\/span> refer to light sources created from a current passing through a gas contained in a PCA tube. The HID family includes Mercury vapor, Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium (HPS), Xenon Metal Halide (XMH), Xenon short-arc lamps &amp; Carbon Arc lamps.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1699 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/shutterstock_140231164-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/shutterstock_140231164-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/shutterstock_140231164-768x625.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/shutterstock_140231164-1024x833.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A Fluorescent Lighting Tube<\/span> is made of a glass tube, filled with argon and traces of mercury. The tungsten electrodes on both sides of the tube spread a current that turns into UV radiation in contact with the gas. <strong>The inside of the tube is coated with a mix of phosphors<\/strong> in order to convert this UV radiation into visible light <strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/chemistry\/high-purity-alumina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">high purity alumina<\/a><\/strong> to reflect the residual UV light.<\/p>\n<h3>Properties of conventional lighting technologies<\/h3>\n<p>PCA has remarkable properties in conventional lighting applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>High transmittance of visible light<\/strong>, often requiring a warm, orange glow.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Efficient diffusion properties<\/strong>; the light must diffuse in every direction with the same intensity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thermal resistance<\/strong>: PCA ceramics are stable at temperatures up to 1,600\u00b0C. In comparison, glass is already reacting at 550\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High pressure resistance<\/strong>. Indeed, increasing the pressure in Sodium lamps boosts the efficiency of the lamp and improves the color rendering. <strong>The use of performing PCA made the fabrication of High Pression Sodium lamps (HPS) possible.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Baikowski\u00ae, we <strong>optimized\u00a0<\/strong>powders <strong>for optical functions<\/strong> in the final ceramics, as we control the purity, the size of particles &amp; formulation for sintering process to ensure <strong>the highest density ceramic parts<\/strong>.
