Being aware that our activities require an important use of this resource, <strong>we are closely monitoring our consumption and taking action to reduce it gradually<\/strong>\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Product mix evolution:<\/strong> This strategy led us to the production of other types of fine oxides aside from aluminum oxide. Manufacturing these higher value-added products turns out to be less energy-consuming than alumina production and comes together with a decrease of production volumes of more standard alumina.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1400\">Furnace upgrades:<\/strong> In addition to this trend, we focus our efforts on optimizing our facilities continuously. That is why we invested in a new technology of burners for our furnace a few years ago. These are heat self-recovery burners, enabling to reduce smoke spillage while reinjecting captured energy back into the system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<h3>How do we manage water sustainably across the Group?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>At Baikowski\u00ae, reducing water consumption has been a priority for over two decades. (BMI)<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As early as 2003, Baikowski&#8217;s subsidiary in the USA recognized the importance of water conservation and made it a key focus of its continuous improvement strategy.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In 2007, following an in-depth process assessment, the company initiated a process<strong> water re-use system.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">By 2020, this initiative had already resulted in a more than<strong> 60% reduction in water usage<\/strong> per unit of production.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>&gt; Baikowski\u00ae France<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#x1f449; <\/strong>At our Poisy site, we have further reinforced our commitment by investing in new technologies to optimize water consumption.<br \/>\nAs a result, in 2024, we achieved a durable <strong>20% reduction in water use per tonne of product,<\/strong> contributing to both environmental preservation and energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a class=\"bouton-bleu\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/decarbonaziton-and-consumption-reduction\/\">Discover our environment and energy policy <\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"Waste treatment\">\n<h2><strong>&#x2705; 2. It gives the ability to neutralize the effluents and it goes even further; we create an upgraded by-product: the calcium sulfate!<\/li>\n<li>Our <em>Sulcaba\u00ef<\/em> (in French, <strong>sul<\/strong>fate de <strong>ca<\/strong>lcium <strong>Bai<\/strong>kowski) is used in agriculture for fertilization and aeration of the soil. It brings many benefits; for instance, it helps for desalination and takes away soda from saline soils. We produce about 1,2 tons of Sulcaba\u00ef for 1 ton of alumina being produced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How much non-hazardous waste do we recover?<\/h3>\n<p>We make sure that we separate and recycle waste as much as we can. Indeed, around <strong>90% of non-hazardous industrial waste are recovered<\/strong> at Baikowski.<\/p>\n<div id=\"Local environment\">\n<h2><strong>&#x2705; 3. How are we rooted in our local environment?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3>What is our local history and footprint?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4096 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Poisy-Baikowski-1950s-1024x730.jpg\" alt=\"Baikowski Poisy plant in the 1950's\" width=\"306\" height=\"218\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Founded in 1904, <strong>Baikowski arrived in Annecy in 1919<\/strong> due to its proximity to the hydroelectric equipment essential to its development and due to watchmaking industry (Swiss &amp; Savoyard) booming at that time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In 1954, the plant in Poisy was created<\/strong> and is employing today about 130 people locally. The company&#8217;s future sustainability is secured through responsible actions toward residents and employees, coupled with the intelligent management of resources and the effective treatment and recovery of all industrial waste and emissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"bouton-bleu\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/history\/\">Discover our history<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>How did we reduce noise?<\/h3>\n<p>Baikowski\u00ae has\u00a0 reduced noise emissions for both employees and local residents by simultaneously implementing several noise reduction projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We installed a custom-made silencer on the gaseous effluent treatment fan and added a variator to the cooling towers,<\/li>\n<li>Within the plant, we fitted cowlings on vacuum pumps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Which Local Long-term projects are underway ?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12147 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/panneaux-photovoltaiques-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"Baikowski roof equiped withSolar panels\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/panneaux-photovoltaiques-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/panneaux-photovoltaiques.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>In the spirit of long-term, inclusive development with its environment, <strong>Baikowski is working with local authorities<\/strong> on various subjects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Solar panels deployment<\/strong>, as part of the governmental plan \u201cclimate, air, energy 2050\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Soft mobility (since 2017):<\/strong> active in the local corporate mobility plan (2\u20133 meetings\/year with the conurbation).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"Next Low-carbon roadmap\">\n<h2>&#x2705; 4.What\u2019s our next low-carbon roadmap?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2022, following the call for application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/awardee-of-expedite-the-industrial-transition\/\">&#8220;<strong>Expedite the industrial transition&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> launched by The French Agency for Ecological Transition, ADEME, Baikowski\u00ae has been taking part in the experiment consisting in the opportunity study of the<strong> low-carbon energy<\/strong> mix of its Poisy production site.<\/li>\n<li>In 2024, Baikowski\u00ae&#8217;s ABC (Alumine Bas Carbone\/ <strong>Low Carbon Alumina<\/strong>) project has also been selected as a winner of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baikowski.com\/en\/baikowski-wins-france-2030-plan-for-alumina-decarbonization\/\">France 2030<\/a><\/strong> call for projects!
